Overview
Warcraft's trolls are tusked humanoid peoples with different tribes and political histories. The playable Horde account focuses specifically on the Darkspear exiles. Their islands offer refuge after conflict within the Gurubashi world drives them from their ancestral homeland. Thrall's arrival during a storm connects the threatened community with the Horde, but that alliance is not the allegiance of every forest, jungle or other troll people.
The maintained race page describes Darkspear Isle, southeast of Durotar, as a fortified home linked by huts and bridges. Its raptor mounts reflect a particular tribal admiration for these animals as embodiments of the hunter. After Vol'jin's death at the Broken Shore, Rokhan becomes leader and represents the tribe on the Horde council. These descriptions belong to different stages than the tribe's original island exile, rather than a timeless map and government.
Brian Kindregan's The Judgment gives spiritual practice a personal narrative. The young Vol'jin and Zalazane enter First Home seeking the loa's judgment before becoming shadow hunters. The opening describes powers capable of granting sight or inflicting terrible consequences. Vol'jin undergoes pain and receives a vision of cooperation with Thrall's people. When the voice challenges whether alliance means submission, he argues that survival makes continued freedom possible. His answer is an individual's reasoning within a trial, not a uniform religious command imposed on all trolls.
Warcraft III and World of Warcraft also represent troll regeneration and combat talents through game systems. Their exact statistics should remain with the relevant guide and version. The Darkspear's homes, ritual specialists and debated partnerships provide cultural context beyond those abilities, while Blizzard's trolls remain distinct from similarly named folklore beings.
First appearances & development
Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness included troll units and Horde allies in 1995; Warcraft III developed the Darkspear narrative. The Judgment was announced on April 27, 2011. The inspected modern playable-race account follows a later leadership stage, and cannot stand as the history of every troll civilization.
Canon & continuity
Complete public race-page lore supplies Darkspear settlement, mounts and the Rokhan leadership stage. The complete 2011 story announcement supports the earlier exile. The story's actual opening through the first loa vision was separately read, not its entire narrative. Dialogue and prophetic experiences remain character-specific; numerical regeneration rules are not derived from that spiritual encounter.
