Overview

Spike Fiends are small beasts whose backs carry defensive quills that they can launch at a distance. The Diablo II family includes Quill Rats, Spike Fiends, Thorn Beasts and Razor Spines, with more developed forms firing faster or releasing volleys. Blizzard's account describes attacks on caravans traveling toward the Rogue Pass, establishing these creatures as hazards along occupied routes rather than only remote dungeon inhabitants.

The guide distinguishes variants that attack without provocation and assigns different elemental effects at higher difficulties. Such rules should not collapse into a universal claim that all quills contain poison, ice and fire simultaneously. Diablo II and Resurrected provide the selected primary versions. The projectile ability is a fictional adaptation: resemblance to a quilled animal does not establish that real porcupines launch their quills, nor is a designer's biological inspiration documented here.

Selected treatment: Diablo II (2000). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. This profile follows Diablo II and its named expansion or remaster, not every later Diablo game. Difficulty, variants and patches change attacks and resistances.

Canon & continuity

Blizzard's individual Arreat Summit monster page supports this creature family's lore, named variants and selected behavior. Diablo II supplies the original encounter, and Diablo II: Resurrected supplies the later visual treatment. The guide itself warns that its comparison statistics may differ from actual gameplay; numerical tables are not treated here as permanent lore.
