Overview

Diablo II's Giant Spider family includes Arachs, Poison Spinners, Flame Spiders and Spider Magi. The Arreat Summit places the creatures in Kehjistan's tropical forests and describes their increased attacks on humans as a consequence of the Prime Evils' influence. Their danger combines large bodies with poisonous bites, while retreating specimens may lay webs that slow pursuit. These are altered inhabitants of Sanctuary rather than spiders transported unchanged from real zoology.

The family heading collects several game variants instead of assigning each color or elemental attack a separate species profile. Poison and fire behavior differ among those variants and with difficulty. Diablo II: Resurrected supplies a later visual treatment of the original encounters, without establishing that every giant spider in later Diablo games has identical abilities. Blizzard's animal classification is a gameplay category, while the ecology and corruption account belong to the fictional world.

Selected treatment: Diablo II (2000). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. This profile follows Diablo II and its named expansion or remaster, not every later Diablo game. Difficulty, variants and patches change attacks and resistances.

Canon & continuity

Blizzard's individual Arreat Summit monster page supports this creature family's lore, named variants and selected behavior. Diablo II supplies the original encounter, and Diablo II: Resurrected supplies the later visual treatment. The guide itself warns that its comparison statistics may differ from actual gameplay; numerical tables are not treated here as permanent lore.

Spiders (Araneae)

Blizzard’s guide explicitly presents this monster family as giant spiders, including web-related behaviour. Araneae supplies the real taxonomic comparison, without identifying one natural species as the model. The supernatural changes, exaggerated scale and combat statistics belong to Diablo II. This named animal association is not a creator-attested inspiration story or a claim that every real spider has the game family’s abilities.
