Overview

Blood Hawks are winged monsters that attack travelers with quick swoops and retreat between strikes. Diablo II groups them with Foul Crows, Black Raptors and Cloud Stalkers, treating the names as variants within a common creature family. Nests in the wilderness continually introduce additional attackers, so a flock is linked to an environmental source rather than merely a fixed group waiting in an open field.

The Arreat Summit records sightings in Entsteig and describes the difficulty of clearing birds while their nest remains active. Higher difficulties add attack and resistance differences; poison is therefore not asserted as an essential property of every specimen. Resurrected renews the original game's presentation. This profile remains specific to Sanctuary's monster family and does not merge it with a real hawk species or another franchise's creature bearing the same name.

Selected treatment: Diablo II (2000). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. This profile follows Diablo II and its named expansion or remaster, not every later Diablo game. Difficulty, variants and patches change attacks and resistances.

Canon & continuity

Blizzard's individual Arreat Summit monster page supports this creature family's lore, named variants and selected behavior. Diablo II supplies the original encounter, and Diablo II: Resurrected supplies the later visual treatment. The guide itself warns that its comparison statistics may differ from actual gameplay; numerical tables are not treated here as permanent lore.

Hawks and other accipitrid raptors

The official guide uses hawk and raptor names within this monster family and describes aerial swooping attacks. Real accipitrid birds provide a comparison for the raptor motif, while the same game family also includes a crow-named variant. This mixed naming scheme does not establish one natural species, one biological family for every variant, or a documented designer’s reference.
