Overview

The ravager carries reservoirs of heated corrosive fluid in an enlarged body with projecting dorsal spikes. It retains a ground attack but adds a mortarlike discharge aimed at a location rather than an unavoidable victim. The delayed projectile can strike ground or airborne units and break protoss force fields. Stationary siege equipment and crowded passages are therefore attractive targets, while attentive opponents can move away. This is an ability that rewards timing and placement; it should not be rewritten as a magical acid that always reaches every enemy.

Blizzard introduced the roach morph in its March 2015 Legacy of the Void beta preview, emphasizing deliberate unit control. Lore accounts describe the strain as extensive modification of the roach's genome, and collection descriptions distinguish more heavily calcified or brood-specific appearances. These biological and cosmetic variations do not automatically confer the armor classifications of another game mode. Nova Covert Ops subsequently uses ravagers in its encounters, while Abathur's cooperative version has its own upgrades. The parent morph stays recognizable, but a competitive unit, campaign enemy and cooperative mutation are not mechanically interchangeable.

First appearances & development

The ravager became a released StarCraft II form with Legacy of the Void in 2015. Its earlier beta announcement is a documented development appearance, rather than an earlier released expansion. Related roach strains remain under the roach profile; a ravager's artillery role and specific morph justify this separate entry.

Canon & continuity

Blizzard's directly read beta preview states the parent morph and targeted bile function. Indexed specialist material supplies biological descriptions and later mode distinctions. Exact damage, cooldown and supply figures are omitted because patches alter them, and collection-skin descriptions are not treated as universally shared traits.
