Overview
The original StarCraft Queen is a flying support organism with biological abilities rather than a conventional weapon attack. Its repertoire includes attaching a Parasite to an enemy, slowing groups with Ensnare and destroying selected ground targets through Spawn Broodlings. It can also infest a vulnerable Terran Command Center under the original rules. Those functions make it a disruptive aerial specialist, not the sequel's familiar ground defender.
StarCraft II redesigns the Queen as a terrestrial creature that can attack, assist larval production, spread Creep and heal friendly biological units. Shared naming connects the forms, but their anatomy and battlefield functions should remain visibly separated. This entry also distinguishes the unit type from Sarah Kerrigan's personal title, Queen of Blades. Campaign mutations, special characters and later balance changes add further exceptions beyond the two representative primary games described here.
First appearances & development
Introduced in StarCraft (1998); substantially revised in StarCraft II (2010). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Original StarCraft, expansion, Remastered and StarCraft II versions can differ in anatomy, abilities and roles; balance numbers are not stable creature lore.
Canon & continuity
Blizzard's creature-specific Classic strategy guide directly supports the original form's appearance, abilities and limitations. StarCraft supplies the selected original depiction; StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty provides a second released treatment. Original StarCraft, expansion, Remastered and StarCraft II versions can differ in anatomy, abilities and roles; balance numbers are not stable creature lore.
