Overview

Lurkers are specialized Zerg creatures developed from Hydralisks and introduced in Brood War. They bury themselves before attacking, sending a line of spikes through the ground toward enemies. This creates an ambush organism with a sharply defined condition: an unburrowed original-game Lurker cannot use its principal weapon. Its subterranean attack also differentiates it from the Hydralisk, whose own burrowing serves concealment rather than firing.

The form returns in StarCraft II, including campaign appearances and its addition to Legacy of the Void's multiplayer roster. Those settings give it revised visual design, upgrades and combat details without erasing the central burrowing identity. This profile does not call the multiplayer introduction its first sequel appearance. A Lurker is catalogued as a specific biological war form, and its game-defined spike pattern is not a general description of real underground predators.
