Comparison · motif comparison

Kitsune

Ninetales's name and illustrated multiple tails can be read beside fox narratives collected by Lafcadio Hearn. The shared fox motif is clear, but a Pokémon's game attributes are not interchangeable with the varied religious and narrative meanings of kitsune traditions. These sources support comparison, not a verified statement naming one story as the design's origin.
