Overview

A Dark Souls mimic waits in the shape of a treasure chest and attacks a player who opens it incautiously. When activated, it unfolds long arms and legs around its hinged mouth and tongue, becoming a disturbing humanoid pursuer. The monster converts an expected reward into an ambush while leaving enough visual clues for a careful observer.

In the first game, the chest's chain and slight movement help distinguish the creature from ordinary containers. Combat and item-based ways of handling it provide alternatives to accepting its bite. These encounter details should not be transferred to Dragon Quest or Dungeons & Dragons mimics, whose names conceal different designs and rules. Later Souls games also change placements and behavior. This profile follows the original game's creature without treating every chest monster as one cross-franchise species.
