Overview
Sif is a gigantic wolf associated with the knight Artorias and encountered guarding his grave in Darkroot Garden. Carrying a greatsword in its mouth, the wolf fights with broad sweeping movements that turn loyalty and guardianship into a memorable boss encounter. The creature is an individual with a particular relationship, not a generic description of every wolf in Lordran.
Artorias of the Abyss later presents a younger Sif in an earlier part of the story, allowing the player to assist the wolf in a different context. That expansion enriches the relationship without making every detail available in the original release. The profile keeps these publication and chronology distinctions explicit. Sif's history is grounded in encounters, items and the expansion, while gender assumptions, exact age and additional motives are not supplied where the source material leaves them uncertain.
First appearances & development
Dark Souls (2011), with an additional younger depiction in Artorias of the Abyss (2012). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. This profile follows Dark Souls I unless stated otherwise; sequels, DLC, remasters and community theories are distinguished from the original encounter.
Canon & continuity
The released game's encounter, items and dialogue form the primary basis. The linked secondary guide supplies identification, location and behavioral details; Future Press confirms an official enemy encyclopedia exists. Its individual pages were not accessed in this task. Patch-dependent mechanics and community interpretations remain separate from explicit game content, and no quoted game text is reproduced.

Sif, the Great Grey Wolf (Japanese: 灰色の大狼シフ, Hepburn: Hai'iro no Dairō Shifu) is a character and boss in the 2011 action role-playing game Dark Souls. A wolf that has grown to a massive size, it protects the grave of its deceased master, Knight Artorias the Abysswalker, and the Covenant of Artorias, a ring that allows its wearer to traverse the Abyss, a dark void normally impassable by mortals. The fight with Sif has been cited by critics as one of the most memorable in the game due to the role reversal of the player as a transgressor. Sif also functions as an optional ally in the game's DLC.
