Overview

Dragon Age's golems are powerful stone or metal beings animated through a process involving lyrium. Origins reveals that their manufacture carries a terrible human cost, turning the apparently practical weapon into a question about sacrifice and coercion. Their heavy bodies can strike, throw objects and serve as living siege engines, but appearance alone does not establish whether an individual retains freedom.

The Anvil of the Void story exposes the relationship between golem creation and dwarven survival against darkspawn. The Stone Prisoner supplies Shale, a companion whose memories and personality make the ethical questions concrete. Control rods, loss of knowledge and surviving ancient constructs therefore matter as much as armor strength. This entry describes the created creature category rather than a separate golem civilization, and it distinguishes Thedas's particular process from the many different meanings of golems in folklore or other games.
