Overview
A frost wyrm is a dead dragon compelled into renewed service, rather than a living cold-climate breed. The Warcraft III account places immense dragon bones in Northrend's graveyards and attributes their raising to Ner'zhul as Lich King. The skeletal creatures radiate cold and obey that master. In the strategy game their breath reaches ground and airborne targets, but splash damage applies differently to those target groups. Cold slows opponents, while researched Freezing Breath can halt a building's activities. Slow movement and demanding production distinguish a powerful late force from a universally effortless aerial hunter.
Sindragosa supplies a later named history within the broader condition. The selected reference describes a former blue dragon, fatally injured in the War of the Ancients, raised by Arthas and ordered to lead the Frostbrood. Her service and Icecrown confrontation give the skeletal form a biography rooted in a previous living identity. That history is an example of transformation, not a rule that every frost wyrm began as a member of her family.
Blizzard's Legion dungeon preview identifies Shivermaw as another captive frost wyrm taken from Icecrown's Frostwing Halls. It frames descent from Sindragosa as a rumor, preserving uncertainty about the claimed brood connection. This later prison encounter also shows the difference between a strategy-game army unit and an individual dungeon adversary. Neither its situation nor Sindragosa's distinctive story should be copied into every skeletal dragon.
First appearances & development
Warcraft III and its 2003 expansion provide this profile's classic baseline. Wrath of the Lich King develops prominent named frost wyrms, while Legion revisits the type through Shivermaw in Violet Hold. These selected examples keep necromantic transformation distinct from breeding, and dated strategy abilities distinct from later dungeon presentations.
Canon & continuity
The complete classic guide establishes graveyard origin, Ner'zhul's raising and selected cold procedures. Sindragosa's full indexed reference supplies the individual history; Blizzard's complete relevant Violet Hold preview supplies Shivermaw's captivity and explicitly rumored brood. The cited reference is not claimed as a freshly inspected cinematic or original novel.
