Overview
Devourers are large Zerg fliers introduced by Brood War as an additional development branch for Mutalisks. They specialize in attacking aircraft, projecting acid that leaves corrosive spores on affected opponents. The original guide connects those spores with slower attacks and greater vulnerability to subsequent hits, making the creature especially useful alongside other airborne organisms. It cannot apply the same attack to an ordinary ground target.
Its name and prominent jaws suggest a general predator, but the expansion's documented combat niche is narrower: a heavy anti-air support form. The destructive chemistry belongs to the fictional setting and does not establish a substance capable of dissolving actual materials. StarCraft: Remastered retains Brood War's creature and rules while renewing its artwork. Later games reorganize Zerg fliers, so the Devourer is described through these original-expansion treatments rather than assumed to be a standard sequel multiplayer unit.
