Overview
A corruptor resembles a floating brain surrounded by dangling muscular tentacles. Fictional accounts describe growths that generate an electromagnetic effect for flight, regulated to prevent them from consuming the appendages. A balancing organ helps it orient in atmosphere and space. Its spores and corrosive secretions damage targets, but its ordinary weapon is aimed at flyers rather than ground troops. The lore's unusual mechanism is alien biology, not a claim that an earthly squid could hover through the same process.
Transforming a corruptor into a brood lord changes that tactical assignment: the new creature launches living attackers at ground targets and needs protection from air threats. The 2015 Legacy of the Void beta preview also replaced Corruption with a channeled Caustic Spray, illustrating why an older damage-amplification ability should not be combined indiscriminately with later rules. Collection treatments describe primal and specialized brood appearances; they do not identify the original assimilated genus with certainty. Exact statistics and cooperative commander bonuses belong to their modes, while the floating predator's basic anti-air role remains recognizable.
First appearances & development
The corruptor entered the released Wings of Liberty roster in 2010 and persisted into later StarCraft II modes. Its fictional assimilated template is not firmly identified in the selected account. Brood-lord transformation and later ability changes are documented separately, rather than interpreting every collection appearance as a distinct biological species.
Canon & continuity
Indexed specialist lore provides anatomy, aerial function and morphing. Blizzard's directly read March 2015 preview supplies the historical Corruption-to-Caustic-Spray change. The two primary games identify the released baseline and later multiplayer treatment; no complete audit of every patch or cooperative skin is claimed.
