Overview

Brontos are heavy animals closely associated with dwarven life in Thedas. The in-world account attributed to Brother Genitivi describes them as beasts of burden and food animals, with some lines also bred as mounts. Their substantial bodies and charging attacks mean that an otherwise practical herd animal can become dangerous when provoked.

Origins places brontos around Orzammar and in subterranean areas, while Inquisition also shows wild animals on the surface. The codex links feral populations with the loss of dwarven settlements, giving domestication a historical setting rather than treating every bronto as a wild dungeon predator. Claims about surviving on fungus, material in water and even rocks belong to fictional scholarship. This profile describes those accounts with attribution and avoids inferring a realistic digestive mechanism or one fixed temperament from every combat encounter.
