Overview
Batswapong cultural work is represented here through selected Botswana accounts in Moremi, Lecheng and the wider Tswapong region. A September 2015 report by Violet Keipeile records that a planned Moremi celebration did not take place because of financial constraints and insufficient support. Lentswe la Batswapong committee chair Shine Namane described unsuccessful approaches to sponsors and villages for assistance. The committee intended to promote Setswapong culture through celebrations in different villages, with displays of attire, games, food and artefacts. This account documents the labour and resources needed for public cultural events, rather than assuming that every announced celebration occurs.
Botswana Railways' February 2018 institutional account describes its participation in a culture day held at Lecheng late in the previous year. The company's purpose included explaining its transport services to potential clients, while speakers discussed cultural preservation. Dorcas Makgatho advocated a cultural village for conserving and documenting local culture. Food, artefacts and musical instruments were displayed at the event. These are reported activities and proposals, with the railway's commercial interest identified alongside the cultural programme. The speakers' historical-origin account is not used here as an independently established migration chronology, and the proposed village is not treated as completed.
Bakang Wren's March 2023 newspaper feature adds a named perspective on language. Interviewed about National Languages Day, social-media creator Tshepo Makati welcomed recognition of the languages spoken in Botswana. The feature's English rendering of her words connects speaking Setswapong from childhood with pride and passing knowledge to children. She also welcomed indigenous-language teaching at primary-school level. This is an individual's reported response to language policy, distinct from a measured account of pupils' proficiency or the views of every speaker. The translation belongs to the newspaper witness; no independent translation of the accompanying Setswapong statement is claimed.
At the May 2024 National Culture Day commemoration in Lecheng, Tumiso Rakgare identified Lentswe la Batswapong and Re Ribolola Ngwao of Majwaneng among organisations supporting cultural festivals. Portia Rapitsenyane's report records his call for research, documentation and intergenerational transmission, alongside recognition of the region's cultural diversity and landscape. He named community trusts concerned with natural-resource conservation, connecting public heritage discussion with local stewardship. These statements identify organisations and priorities at a dated gathering. Claims about benefits in other districts and hoped-for economic development do not become proof that every Tswapong programme achieved the same results.
