Overview

Balete communities around Ramotswa are represented here through dated public cultural-event reporting and named local participants. Tlamelo Moagi's August 2015 Botswana Press Agency report describes preparations for a cultural day at the main kgotla. Deputy Kgosi Tsimane Mokgosi asked organisers to provide explanations of exhibited artefacts after visitors at the previous event had been left without interpreters. He also encouraged young people to display their arts and crafts. Committee member Simon Molebatsi emphasised the importance of the Selete dialect and expressed concern about linguistic change. These statements record particular organisers' priorities for a public event, rather than defining a fixed practice shared by every Balete person.

Public presentation could also be reorganised. In Bonang Masolotate's September 2016 report, Mokgosi explained a decision to hold the Barwa Kgodumo cultural day, arts and music festival separately from graduation ceremonies. He said that the graduation activities had previously drawn attention away from the other cultural displays. The planned event at Ramotswa showground would include exhibits, traditional games and performances, with many artists coming from GaMalete. This account shows organisers distinguishing different occasions and audiences within community life. It reports the proposed programme and the reasoning behind its format; attendance, later delivery and lasting effects are not independently established by the announcement.

Lindi Morwaeng's January 2023 account reports a later cultural festival organised by GaMalete Development Trust with the Department of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture. Visiting leaders and local participants discussed cultural identity and continuity, while local artists supplied dance, music and food. Kgosi Mosadi Seboko also spoke about community concerns, including gender-based violence and educational responsibilities toward younger people. The report records residents bringing concerns and possible responses to tribal leadership. Its mixture of cultural performance, public discussion and institutional collaboration gives a more specific picture than treating the festival solely as spectacle, while the speakers' assessments remain attributed opinions.

A separate September 2023 newspaper account by Itumeleng Naane describes a matching ceremony for Peace Corps volunteers and host families at Tswelelopele Brigade Hall. The planned eleven-week Ramotswa training combined home stays with conversational Setswana and learning about local institutions. Seboko explained that participants would learn about the kgotla and chieftaincy in relation to government. Council chairperson Zaahid Jalal encouraged families to welcome the visitors and described cultural sharing as a means of expressing community identity. This is evidence of a particular hosting and education programme, not proof of its later outcomes or a comprehensive description of all Balete households.
