Overview
The 2024 playtest preserves uncertainty about ysoki populations' shared ancestry versus convergent origins. Its terminology does not establish one lineage across worlds.
Quig's 2017 biography begins with a poor family on Akiton. Water-treatment machinery attracts his interest, and practical experimentation leads to work keeping pipes from freezing. He builds Scout from recovered parts. This progression makes his engineering knowledge acquired through curiosity and labor, rather than an automatic species trait.
A bounty hunter becomes his mentor after helping retrieve the stolen drone. Apprenticeship develops into independent tracking and starship work; friendships and continued family contact accompany his travels. His attachment to discarded components is an individual habit, not evidence that ysoki living spaces are inherently dirty.
In Sutter's 2019 encounter, Quig tries to repair a damaged robot whose access codes can expose a dangerous facility. Even after the codes are recovered, he insists on carrying the inert machine with the fleeing crew. A grenade separates them, and he cannot prevent the robot's destruction.
Iseph notices his refusal to abandon the machine while other crewmates prioritize escape. Their disagreement concerns these individuals, rather than every member of either people.
First appearances & development
The selected Starfinder biography appeared in 2017 and the encounter in 2019. The playtest supplies later terminology and an explicitly uncertain population-origin question. Earlier Pathfinder ratfolk publication history is outside this bounded account, so the biography is not called their first invention.
Canon & continuity
Complete Quig biography and 2019 fiction were read, with selected playtest pages 44–45. Descriptions distinguish learned skills and a named character's choices from communal tendencies. The story's other speakers are not treated as neutral biological authorities. No artwork or new playthrough was inspected.
