Overview

The 2024 playtest recognizes manufactured bodies, diverse forms and souls. These people are distinguished from ordinary programmed robots.

Sutter's 2017 biography describes renewal as a voluntary departure of one soul so another can inhabit the same body. Iseph awakens on Aballon with unexplained bodily markings and a warning apparently written by the body's previous occupant. The past threatens them even though the account identifies the renewed person as new.

Contact with android escapees and evidence of coercive ownership leads Iseph toward the Android Abolitionist Front. Later independent work does not erase their concern for oppressed people. Their lack of personal attachment to gender is explicitly individual; other androids adopt gender identities.

In the 2019 crew encounter, Iseph objects when Obozaya dismisses a robot, remembers crucial coordinates and recognizes Quig's concern for the damaged machine. Their technical competence and sympathy appear together; neither proves that all machines share android personhood.

First appearances & development

Iseph's 2017 biography supplies the first-edition identity account, and the 2019 encounter develops it through crew interaction. Earlier Pathfinder androids are acknowledged but not newly surveyed. The later playtest is a dated comparison, not a final current character-build prescription.

Canon & continuity

Both complete Sutter texts were read. Selected playtest pages 8–9 corroborate the soul-bearing category, without borrowing numerical traits. Identity, gender and resistance are separated from assumptions about universal emotionlessness. No broader machine taxonomy or artwork inspection is claimed.
