Shirren

Overview

The 2017 preview describes upright, chitin-armored people with compound eyes, antennae and telepathy. A mutation broke a subcolony from the Swarm's collective mind. Its descendants rejected consumption and settled in the Pact Worlds. Choice can stimulate neurological pleasure without excluding cooperation.

Weaker reproductive arms are distinguished from ordinary limbs. Male, female and host contribute to reproduction: the host incubates young and adds genetic material. Larvae spend two years in protective containers. These are fictional reproductive claims, rather than a model of real insect biology.

Keskodai's biography places a shirren community on Verces. His parent's Hylax worship does not determine his own faith: a devastating local epidemic draws him to Pharasma's hospice ministry. Trauma leaves him torn between individual freedom and regulation intended to protect neighbors.

He later marries a female-host couple and travels with their larval child by family agreement. A fortified cradle-jar supports safe observation; limited telepathy and tapping allow communication. His work as a ship's medic and uncertainty about eventually returning home give independent choice concrete familial consequences, rather than reducing it to a combat ability.

First appearances & development

Sutter revealed shirrens in April 2017 as the final previously undisclosed core people for the first game. The May Keskodai biography develops that introduction through a named household and community. Later edition changes are not established by these prelaunch publications.

Canon & continuity

The complete race preview and Keskodai biography were read. General physiology comes from the former; the latter supplies an individual religious and family history. The suspected laboratory origin of the epidemic remains suspected, not a proven cause. No later rules or artwork inspection is claimed.
