Overview
Ocarina of Time presents Volvagia as the ancient dragon of Death Mountain, once defeated by a Goron hero using a huge hammer. In the adult adventure Ganondorf revives it and threatens captive Gorons with being fed to it. The Fire Temple encounter turns that history into a practical confrontation: Link uses the Megaton Hammer when the dragon exposes its head from lava openings. Between those openings it flies, breathes fire and brings down rocks. Its long, undulating body has forelegs, a rocky head and a fiery mane. The creature combines a particular community's remembered danger with a boss whose attacks and vulnerable moments depend on the arena.
The recurrent name does not make every portrayal a single uninterrupted biography. In Echoes of Wisdom, the Eldin Temple dragon bears a green necklace jewel that Zelda can pull with Bind to create an opening; that sequence is not the earlier hammer fight. The Himekawa manga also supplies a separate personal connection to Link, which should not be imported into the game. Nintendo's development interview adds another kind of history: Takizawa recalls giving Morita the model pieces and learning that the resulting undulation reused Star Fox 64 pursuit programming. This explains production technique, not an in-world connection between the dragon and spacecraft. Each account therefore needs its work attached to it, especially when explaining friendship, revival or a combat weakness.
First appearances & development
Volvagia debuted in Ocarina of Time (1998) and returned in Echoes of Wisdom (2024). Ocarina of Time 3D retains the earlier temple context. The similarly named Barba of Zelda II is not silently merged into this profile, and the licensed manga's character history remains an adaptation rather than the game's original backstory.
Canon & continuity
The source-indexed Zelda Wiki account supplies the Goron dialogue, boss sequences and separate manga treatment. Nintendo's direct Takizawa interview independently witnesses the programming explanation. Combat facts remain attached to their named games. No complete new replay, inspection of every licensed manga edition or assertion of a universal dragon genealogy is claimed.

Family, evolution & connections
Star Fox 64 pursuit programming
Takizawa recalls that Morita animated Volvagia using the programming for a fighter pursuing Arwing in Star Fox 64. Morita confirms the substitution. This is a development-technique connection, not shared canon or dragon ancestry.
