Overview
Once grouped under Tsou classification, the Thao are distinguished in the CIP account by language, religion and life-cycle ceremonies. They received separate official recognition in 2001, an administrative status rather than the people's beginning.
The source attributes displacement to flooding for hydroelectric development, followed later by further pressure on land.
The CIP describes historical fishing and cultivation, then notes a shift toward tourism and catering at Ita Thao in its account. Canoe construction changed over time, while women’s pestle music connects seasonal ritual with public performance.
