Overview

CIP places Paiwan communities around Dawu Mountain and the southern Central Range in Pingtung and Taitung. It distinguishes Ravar and Vuculj divisions.

The council describes named houses, inherited social positions and succession through the eldest child, alongside carving and pottery. These institutions vary between communities and have changed over time, so they should not be read as an unchanged present-day hierarchy.

Millet ceremonies feature in the account. CIP ties Maleveq specifically to Vuculj communities rather than to all Paiwan. It also notes that colonial rule and religious change affected these institutions.
