Overview

The CIP presents Pinuyumayan as a distinct community identity in southeastern Taiwan. Speech differs between communities, a variation the council links partly to contact with neighbouring peoples.

Age-group organisation centred on assembly halls is a documented institution. Cultivation has shifted over time among millet, rice and cash crops, and bamboo and rattan work are recorded crafts.

The source notes continuing creation of new music alongside migration to urban areas, and reports that traditional matrilocal marriage is becoming less common.
