Skutter (Red Dwarf)

Overview

Red Dwarf’s maintenance robots hoard Film Fun magazines, enjoy John Wayne films and imitate western adventures. They also insult Rimmer while helping with his cooking. The entry’s informal note names Bob and Madge, while attributing other teasing nicknames to Rimmer.

The selected still shows a low blue machine body and a narrow jointed metal arm ending in a dark gripper.

In an August 2003 interview, prop specialist Stephen Lane says the Skutters were fully remote-controlled. He wanted to acquire them, but reports that they were being retained for the proposed film then under discussion. This dates the statement to a historical production context: it does not establish their present ownership, current condition or the completion of that film. The recollection distinguishes a screen character capable of attitude from the practical prop operated during filming.
