Overview
Simulants are artificial beings in Red Dwarf whose encounters commonly involve hostility toward organic humans and formidable military capabilities. Their apparent superiority and contempt make them a different kind of technological threat from a malfunctioning household machine. The crew must cope with deliberate opponents who possess intentions, tactics and the equipment to impose them.
Justice and Gunmen of the Apocalypse develop the category at different points in the television series. Later models and individual villains vary in appearance and circumstances, so a single uniform chassis is misleading. The distinction from Kryten matters: artificial origin by itself does not determine moral character, and simulant antagonism belongs to their particular fictional history.
