Overview
Red Dwarf's Cat people descend from Lister's pregnant pet Frankenstein, whose lineage develops during his millions of years in stasis. Their humanoid bodies retain feline mannerisms, but their historical culture also transforms fragments of Lister's intentions into religion. Cat's vanity and appetite provide familiar comedy while the civilization's lost history makes the premise stranger and sadder.
Waiting for God exposes how sacred stories can arise from misunderstood everyday evidence. Cat remains an individual whose priorities need not describe every ancestor or surviving member of the species. Television and novels organize this history differently, so this account follows the screen baseline and avoids using a joking taxonomic name as real evolutionary biology.
