AI concept of Seto oral transmission and public cultural research.
Setting, tools and layout imagined; not ethnographic evidence.
Overview
Setomaa's community portal locates the historical Seto settlement area across southeastern Estonia and the Pechory region of Russia. It presents Setos as a distinct community influenced by both neighbours, with their own language and an oral culture expressed through singing. Cultural belonging therefore extends across a state border.
Founded in 2010, the Seto Institute coordinates research on Setomaa and Seto culture and shares its results publicly. It describes publications, scientific events and cultural teaching conducted with local institutions and people. This institutional activity complements community transmission without making one organisation the whole of Seto life.
