Overview

The selected creature account describes witches who surrender parts of their souls for Seiðr power until they lose their humanity. Their emaciated bodies, animal-skull staffs and unsettling movement make that transformation visible. They are a particular corrupted figure in God of War’s Norse setting, distinct from its Draugr and from the broad traditional meaning of a revenant. Their evasiveness is also part of the encounter design: a protective shroud prevents Kratos’s ordinary attacks from connecting, while Atreus’s arrows temporarily expose them. Their eventual vulnerability depends on cooperation between the two travelers, not on a general rule that all spirits can be injured only by children.

Poison Revenants leave dangerous ground patches and direct a traveling fissure toward their opponents. Summoners instead bring flying Nightmares into the fight and use a blinding cloud to conceal follow-up attacks. The guide’s limit on simultaneously summoned creatures describes the implemented encounter, not the witch’s reproductive biology or the natural population of Nightmares. Hel-Revenants use a related shrouded form with freezing breath and ice attacks. Their presence demonstrates how Helheim’s condition can modify another enemy type. This comparison preserves both the original Seiðr transformation and its frozen manifestation, without treating poison, summoning and frost as three separately documented peoples.

First appearances & development

The profile selects the Norse-era 2018 enemy and contemporary licensed guide. Its broader word has many unrelated supernatural meanings, so the game-qualified name matters. Poison, summoner and Hel versions are retained as encounter distinctions; no precise earlier franchise debut is inferred from a shared label.

Canon & continuity

The dedicated reference provides the soul-for-power explanation and visible form. Prima’s separate Revenant chapter supplies shroud removal, poison and summoning behavior; its Hel-Walker chapter independently describes the frozen version. No generated quick-answer folklore claims or speculative anatomical comparisons are adopted as canonical origins.
