Overview

The 2018 account connects Hel-Walkers in Midgard with a breakdown in the passage of the dead. Corrupted Valkyries can no longer perform their role properly, and Helheim’s overcrowding spills beyond its expected boundaries. The creatures’ pale, icy appearance marks their relationship to that realm; it does not mean that every one had the same profession or body before death. The guide includes frozen counterparts of several other enemy forms. A Hel-Reaver, a heavily armed warrior and a small leaping creature can therefore share this condition without becoming one ordinary biological species.

Their combat behavior makes cold an active hazard. Frost attacks slow Kratos, and the guide describes nearby Hel-Walkers becoming more dangerous while that impairment lasts. Fire is generally more effective against their frozen forms, while the Leviathan Axe’s cold does not provide its usual advantage. Some variants send waves across the ground, while others retain the fighting style of their underlying enemy type. Ragnarök adds another context: Fimbulwinter’s dead raiders can return in more primitive, unarmed forms. That later portrayal is kept distinct from the earlier explanation of overflowing Helheim. Neither the shared blue coloration nor resemblance to another franchise’s undead establishes a creator-declared relationship.

First appearances & development

The selected witnesses are the 2018 game, its licensed enemy guide and the 2022 sequel’s dedicated reference account. The profile covers a supernatural condition across different encountered bodies. Later Fimbulwinter deaths are not retroactively substituted for the first game's afterlife crisis.

Canon & continuity

Prima’s inspected Hel-Walker sections support frost resistance, fire vulnerability and the variety of frozen encounter forms. The dedicated reference supplies the 2018 overcrowding explanation and separately identifies the sequel's changed portrayal. The profile preserves those narrative causes instead of reducing every appearance to one timeless rule.
