Overview

Pyjaks are small monkeylike animals encountered on several worlds, including Eletania and Tuchanka. They gather around settlements and objects that attract their curiosity, sometimes creating practical problems for people carrying sophisticated equipment. Their appearance invites the convenient space-monkey comparison, but the games do not present them as Earth primates or a spacefaring civilization. The first game's lost probe module mission makes their interference with technology the central problem of an otherwise military investigation.

Mass Effect 2 uses pyjaks as pests around the Urdnot camp, where Ratch asks for help protecting supplies. The encounter connects them to local trade and the food offered to a varren rather than making every pyjak universally hostile. Andromeda later includes a shipboard animal associated with research on how it copes away from a normal planetary habitat. Those different settings keep wild populations, settlement pests and a cared-for individual within one animal profile. Player choices and local circumstances account for the changes in treatment; they are not evidence of separate named subspecies.

First appearances & development

Pyjaks appear in the first Mass Effect and remain recognizable animals in later games, including Andromeda. The entry follows their actual encounters rather than treating space monkey as a scientific lineage. Lost-module recovery, settlement pest control and shipboard care are different situations involving the animal; no complete earliest-development chronology is claimed.

Canon & continuity

The species reference identifies the original probe mission, Tuchanka pest-control activity and Andromeda animal storyline. The named games are the primary narrative basis, not freshly replayed complete playthroughs. The account avoids a definite diet inferred only from development artwork and keeps familiar Earth-animal comparisons separate from proven fictional ancestry.
