Overview
Asari are long-lived humanoid people from Thessia, prominent in Citadel politics and naturally inclined toward biotics. Their homeworld’s abundance of element zero helps explain those abilities. Reproduction involves melding nervous systems with a partner, whose species need not be asari; the child is asari. Their lives can extend beyond a millennium, with Maiden, Matron and Matriarch stages providing a social framework rather than a profession assigned to every individual.
BioWare’s 2012 Resurgence Pack presents an Asari Justicar Adept as a playable multiplayer combat role. The announcement emphasizes natural biotic power and mobile attacks, placing those abilities in an explicit battlefield context. A Justicar character kit is not an account of every asari civilian’s training, and reinforcement-pack availability is a game system rather than a demographic fact.
The Reaper War also exposes the vulnerability of asari settlements. An official Operation SILENCER update, written as Admiral Hackett’s address, reports that forces must withdraw from several colonies because reinforcement is untenable. It describes learning and adaptation on both sides after fighting banshees and brutes. This is a dated event narrative attached to the 2012 multiplayer campaign, not a claim that every possible single-player ending contains the same colonial losses. Original-trilogy choices and later Andromeda communities retain their own contexts.
First appearances & development
The asari are introduced in the 2007 novel Revelation and original game. This account retains that foundation, adds the official 2012 multiplayer portrayal, and distinguishes a game character kit from an in-universe wartime dispatch. Later reproduction and cultural summaries remain labelled reference material.
Canon & continuity
The inspected reference article supplies the limited biology and life-stage summary. BioWare’s complete Resurgence announcement and SILENCER update provide the primary combat-role and wartime examples. The latter is voiced by fictional Admiral Hackett; it is not a neutral report of all player timelines.

The asari are a fictional extraterrestrial humanoid species in the Mass Effect multimedia franchise developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. Introduced in the 2007 novel Mass Effect: Revelation, the asari are a sapient homeotherm species who are naturally inclined towards biotics, the ability to manipulate dark energy and alter the mass of objects through the use of electrical impulses from the brain, which produce various psychic abilities such as telekinesis.
The asari are depicted as beings with a feminine appearance by non-asari standards, a pansexual-panromantic orientation, and the capability of reproducing with any species. Asari can live for over a thousand years and go through three stages of life, which is analogous to the Triple Goddess archetype in Neopagan religious and spiritual traditions. Asari culture is depicted as being egalitarian, xenophilic, pro-diversification, pro-multiculturalism and anti-eugenics. The asari appear in most Mass Effect games and media: several are major characters, such as Liara T'Soni, Matriarch Benezia, Samara, Aria T'Loak, Lexi T'Perro and Pelessaria "Peebee" B'Sayle. In addition, the asari are playable characters in the multiplayer modes for Mass Effect 3 and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
The asari have been recognized as an important aspect of the universe of Mass Effect and are popular among fans as subjects for expressions of fan labor, though they have received a wide range of positive and negative critical responses from their various appearances.
