Overview
Pukei-Pukei is a Bird Wyvern with a feathered green body, bulging eyes and a long flexible tongue. In Monster Hunter: World it gathers food and produces poison attacks through its mouth and tail. Its appearance mixes an ungainly, almost comic face with a substantial flying predator, while changes in the tail and throat signal the accumulation or release of dangerous secretions.
Food collection and interactions with stronger monsters help establish Pukei-Pukei as an inhabitant of the Ancient Forest rather than only a target for an early quest. Its poison should be distinguished from the water jets of Coral Pukei-Pukei, the subspecies introduced in Iceborne. The ordinary species returns in Rise with title-specific encounter details. This profile follows that original poison-using form and avoids assigning every subspecies attack, crafting statistic or ecological speculation to it.
First appearances & development
Monster Hunter: World (2018). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation.
