Velkhana

Overview

Velkhana is an Elder Dragon whose ice formation changes both its body and the surrounding battlefield. A slender dragon silhouette and ice-covered armour make controlled elegance part of its presentation, while freezing breath and newly formed barriers turn that appearance into practical danger. Iceborne gives the creature a central place in investigating environmental change rather than treating frost as only a weapon element.

Its later Sunbreak encounter includes changes that need version attribution, and it was not part of that expansion's launch roster. Ice structures, tail behaviour and damage interactions cannot be assumed identical across games. The profile follows the creature's demonstrated freezing capabilities and specific narrative roles without converting every dramatic effect into a universal physical law for the setting.

First appearances & development

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (2019) introduces Velkhana; Sunbreak adds it in a 2023 update. This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Game Hunter's Notes and encounters are the baseline; subspecies, variants, spin-offs and numerical mechanics require title attribution.

Canon & continuity

Primary basis: Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (2019); comparison: Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (2022). The linked secondary guide collates appearances and game descriptions. Hypothetical fan ecology is excluded; exact statistics and exceptional variant abilities must be checked in the selected released title rather than generalized across the series.
