Overview
Rathian is the female Flying Wyvern associated with Rathalos, commonly portrayed with green armor and powerful legs. Its land-oriented pursuit contrasts with the male's characteristic aerial defense. Capcom's Tri account identifies a fire-breathing hunter whose tail secretes poison and notes that the pair can cooperate when pursuing prey. The maintained Now description likewise connects strong legs with rushing across the ground and subduing a target through the tail. A relationship between the two forms remains meaningful without making their separate names evidence that they are wholly unrelated animals.
Tri's 2010 publisher guide specifically warns returning players that familiarity with earlier encounters is insufficient. It describes a new pinning sequence in which Rathian holds a hunter down and bites. Allies or Cha-Cha can assist, while the guide identifies a Dung Bomb as an emergency escape option for an isolated hunter. Contributor recommendations also emphasize the dangerous tail flip, antidotes and avoiding a frontal position. These are historically scoped hunting observations, not a guarantee that every later game reproduces that sequence or the same item response.
Now gives a precise consequence to a particular attack on the body: the official page states that severing the tail disables the venom coating its spikes. It also identifies the head as a vulnerable target and lists wings, back and head alongside the severable tail as damageable parts. This does not establish an identical poison-removal rule in all titles. Forest, desert and volcano encounter categories, with Thunder and Dragon weaknesses, belong to the maintained mobile-game guide. Pink, Gold and specialized Rathian treatments require their own sources; the standard profile does not inherit every variant's abilities.
First appearances & development
Monster Hunter (2004) remains the initial historical witness in the selected bibliography. The substantive primary comparison here uses Capcom's March 2010 Tri guide and the maintained Now entry. Rise remains a separately identified earlier comparison, rather than the authority for mobile-game poison rules or Tri's pinning behavior.
Canon & continuity
The complete Capcom guide and official Now account were inspected for pairing, movement, pinning, venom and part damage. Advice by named contributors is presented as publisher-hosted hunting advice, with its Tri context intact. Original appearance and other-release context remain Reference-mediated; exact timing, damage values and every historical patch are not newly collated.
