Overview
Porunga is summoned from the seven Namekian Dragon Balls and grants three wishes made in Namekian, within his power. Dende enables the visiting heroes to communicate with him. The Great Elder’s death interrupts their unfinished wishes and removes the dragon; reviving the elder restores him. Possession of the objects is therefore insufficient without language and a living creator. Transport is not always imposed: Goku refuses to be brought to Earth.
The initial system permits one resurrection per wish and recharges after 130 days. A later Great Elder strengthens Porunga to revive multiple people together. During the Majin Buu climax, he restores Earth, returns eligible victims to life and replenishes Goku’s strength. His restorative role depends on changing rules, not a permanent ranking against Shenron; early limits should not be generalized across later stories.
First appearances & development
The publisher identifies Tale 292 as Porunga’s first appearance in Toriyama’s original Dragon Ball manga. His Namek storyline precedes the later Great Elder’s upgrade. The bibliography uses the manga series’ original starting year; it does not date Tale 292 to that year. The Z anime is an adaptation witness, not an independent shared-universe debut.
Canon & continuity
The official 2024 character showcase links specific manga tales to summoning, interrupted wishes, transport, recharge and later resurrection changes. Those chapter-specific accounts support this bounded profile. It does not claim fresh inspection of every Japanese panel, dubbed episode or game menu, and does not import Super’s other dragon systems.
