Overview
Paolumu is a furry Flying Wyvern that moves through the Coral Highlands with an inflatable neck sac. By drawing in air it enlarges the pouch and floats above the ground, then releases air to move or strike. Its rounded appearance conceals a hardened tail that can batter opponents, giving the creature a combination of buoyant movement and forceful physical attacks.
The original form's air handling belongs to the distinctive ecology and vertical terrain of Monster Hunter: World. Deflating the neck pouch changes its movement during a hunt, connecting the visible anatomy with the encounter. Iceborne's Nightshade Paolumu is a separate sleep-gas subspecies whose status attacks must not be assigned to every Paolumu. This profile covers the ordinary animal in World and its expansion, with no claim that its fictional flotation mechanism obeys real aerodynamics.
First appearances & development
Monster Hunter: World (2018). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation.
