Overview
The official glossary places these soft-bodied armored animals in the Caves of Grot. Young nurlocs can be docile, while older animals become more obstinate and may nest where their caretakers would prefer an open passage. This makes them part of everyday cave life: tending them involves relationships, maintenance and the management of inconvenient behavior rather than effortless control. The broader creature account also associates them with light-sensing structures and peaceful coexistence underground.
Age of Resistance uses the Darkening to disrupt that coexistence, turning familiar animals into immediate threats in episodes identified by the official guide. Deet's family tends nurloc herds, and their bodies contribute material to Grottan clothing. The independent guide further attributes food and husbandry details to the licensed bestiary. Those supplementary claims are kept separate from a declaration that all wormlike beings are the same species or that a darkened individual has become a permanently new taxon.
First appearances & development
The reviewed screen baseline is the 2019 Age of Resistance prequel, with the official glossary expressly identifying episodes one and eight for darkened nurlocs. Companion mythology and licensed books add related accounts, but their full appearance chronology has not been audited. No absolute first publication date is invented from the screen date.
Canon & continuity
The inspected N glossary identifies cave habitat, age-related behavior, herds, clothing material and darkened attacks. The creature encyclopedia and independent nurloc guide offer corroborating companion references. Specific bestiary passages remain reference-mediated; a complete new reading of the 2020 book and an exhaustive list of earlier print appearances are not claimed.

Gelfling
Grottan Gelfling rear Nurlocs; Deet’s fathers tend herds, and Nurloc rump supplies clothing material. This is husbandry within the prequel’s fictional ecology.
Armaligs
The glossary calls Nurlocs closely related to Armaligs. It gives neither the branching order nor a mechanism of descent, so this does not supply a scientific phylogeny.
