Overview
The Shenyijing describes a messenger of Hebo riding a white horse with a red mane over the Western Sea. The rider wears white clothes and a black cap and is accompanied by twelve boys. Horse and rider travel over water with a speed compared to wind and flight.
When the messenger goes ashore, water reaches every place marked by the horse’s tracks. Heavy rain falls in the country he visits, and he returns to the river in the evening. The passage provides this specific watery procession and its effect rather than an independent biography of Hebo.
