Overview
The Shenyijing places Daoshou in the Western Wilderness. Its body and feet are tigerlike, while its face is human. Hair three chi long covers it, and the teeth are described as one zhang and eight chi in length. The mixed human and feline form is accompanied by exaggerated proportions.
The passage describes people trying to capture the animal. It is clever enough to anticipate them, and in a fight it refuses to retreat, continuing until death. The notice identifies resistance to hunters rather than giving a named hero’s encounter.
