Overview

Harpies travel in flocks, using flight and agility to patrol or scout. The original Grimoire calls them especially mobile but notes a limitation: they must stop and steady themselves before firing. Their compact shells open to reveal moving filaments around the central eye, giving the frame a strongly different appearance from the upright Goblin. This is a synthetic Vex form, not a mythological woman-bird creature. The shared name does not demonstrate descent from ancient Greek beings within Destiny’s fictional history.

Destinypedia describes ordinary Harpies maneuvering around gunfire and gathering around opponents to make several firing angles dangerous at once. The original game commonly equips them with Slap Rifles; Destiny 2 also uses laser-armed examples. Their normal lack of a close-range strike can force evasive movement when a target crowds them, although powerful named examples need not share every limitation. Specialized exploding Supplicants and other variants should therefore be identified within their encounter context. A Harpy’s purpose is not exhausted by its gun: patrol movement and the flock’s response make it part of a wider Vex surveillance system.

First appearances & development

Harpies appear in Destiny (2014) and Destiny 2 (2017). This entry covers the recurring airborne frame, not every named Harpy boss or subsequent variant as a separate creature. The archive’s later card ingestion date is distinguished from the original game appearance, and weapon differences remain scoped to their releases.

Canon & continuity

The inspected Harpy Grimoire card provides patrol, scouting and stabilization details. Destinypedia supplies reference-mediated shell behavior, weapons and encounter distinctions. The account does not universalize the limitations of ordinary units to every boss, nor claim that the mythological name is a documented creator inspiration without an appropriate design source.
