Overview

Fiends are large kett-modified creatures used as violent assault animals in the Andromeda setting. Their heavy protective bodies, charging movement and acidic attacks make them suitable for breaking through defended positions. The species documentation identifies the local eiroch as the source animal, so the profile distinguishes the engineered kett condition from its unmodified biological precursor. It also separates this creature from the ordinary meaning of fiend as any demon or villain.

The codex examines bodily modifications and offers hypotheses about the kett's control of aggression and pain response. Its statements about nerve changes and pheromone signalling are preliminary scientific interpretations within the story; they should not become unqualified omniscient facts. Scanning and fighting the animal supplies a different kind of knowledge from witnessing the conversion process itself. The identified primary narrative and codex are both from Andromeda, rather than the original trilogy. Their shared game origin is explicit in the bibliography, with no invented earlier appearance or later independent story.

First appearances & development

Fiends are documented in Mass Effect: Andromeda, released in 2017, through battles, scanning and the game's species codex. The entry follows the kett-modified eiroch condition, keeping the precursor animal distinct without inventing another narrative appearance. The codex is an additional primary treatment within the same game, not an independent sequel or novel.

02

Canon & continuity

The Andromeda species codex identifies eiroch-derived kett modification and reports preliminary analysis of protective tissue and aggression. The creature reference documents combat presentation. Claims about pheromones and altered pain response retain the investigators' uncertainty. Only the game's narrative and its codex are identified primary treatments; no full scientific account of conversion is claimed.
