Overview
The Western Mountains places Feiyi at Mount Ying, a mountain with metals, bamboo and other animals. This Feiyi is explicitly a bird: its shape resembles a quail, its body is yellow and its beak red. The notice attributes relief from a named disease and an insect-killing effect to eating it.
The bird shares its written name with other Shanhaijing creatures, including the multi-limbed or double-bodied Feiyi serpents. Its avian anatomy and dietary attribution identify this particular notice. It should not inherit the serpents’ drought omens.
