Overview
A fan lizard unfolds a broad luminous structure that lifts it away from disturbance in Pandora's dense atmosphere and relatively low gravity. The folded animal and the airborne disc-like form consequently look very different, but represent a single creature rather than two stages counted as separate species. The official guide connects that rapid unfolding to escape, giving a striking visual effect a practical function in the fictional ecology.
Na'vi children are described as disturbing resting animals to watch the bright forms float away. This small interaction presents wildlife as part of ordinary life on Pandora, beyond the large predators and riding animals that dominate major action scenes. The original film and the Na'vi River Journey attraction are separately identified appearances; the attraction is not automatically another dated film event. This profile uses the film and official guide as its primary reference points and does not invent an unprovided diet, reproductive cycle or advanced social civilization.
First appearances & development
The fan lizard is identified in the original film and the later official guide, with Na'vi River Journey supplying another named presentation. This entry treats the unfolding disc and resting animal as one creature. It does not assign an unverified first-design date, extrapolate film chronology from the attraction or merge unrelated fantasy creatures called lizards.
Canon & continuity
The inspected official entry explains the fan's escape function under Pandora's fictional atmosphere and gravity and records children's reactions to the display. The original film is the listed narrative basis. Beyond these claims, anatomy and ecology are deliberately bounded: no complete diet, breeding system or unseen defensive power is reconstructed from its attractive visual form.
