Overview
Stingbats are nocturnal Pandoran flyers that eat small animals and fruit, and can attack much larger creatures in groups. Their four eyes support navigation, while luminous body and wing markings make their outline visible at night. A potentially lethal tail spine adds danger to an animal small enough to become prey for banshees. The guide therefore presents neither a dominant apex predator nor a harmless ornamental creature.
Some Na'vi keep and train stingbats despite their temper and hazardous tails, teaching them to respond to a call or take food from the hand. That relationship shows how human-style labels such as pet can conceal substantial local risks and skill. The original film and official field guide supply the baseline, with a later Next Shadow appearance identified by the publisher but not treated as a completely reread comic. The bat comparison does not import terrestrial bat classification, the same number of eyes or an assumed mammalian reproductive system into Pandora.
