Overview
Erdtree Burial Watchdogs resemble hunched beast statues with long, cat-like tails. They protect catacombs associated with Erdtree burial and are described as commanding the Imps found in those spaces. Their name does not require a canine anatomy: the selected forms include one-headed and three-headed statues, with either a large sword or a stone staff. Different encounters use fire, frost or lightning effects, so one tail's element should not become a universal trait of every watchdog.
The Watchdog's Greatsword text describes a stone weapon decorated with a watchman's eye whose pupil has been stolen by graverobbers. Its lost ornament is evidence of the weapon's condition, not proof that every guardian is blind or that the theft created the whole species. Stormfoot supplies a sword form, Impaler's Catacombs pairs a three-headed form with Imps, and Minor Erdtree Catacombs combine sword and sceptre watchdogs. Crystal Darts can make these golems turn against nearby enemies. That interaction concerns their animated construct behaviour; it does not explain a complete funerary manufacturing process or identify a particular artisan without additional testimony.
First appearances & development
The selected statues and equipment appear in Elden Ring in 2022. Elemental, weapon and head-count configurations are grouped as encounter forms. These constructs stay separate from living Erdtree Avatars, stone gargoyles in Dark Souls and ordinary dogs despite overlapping words or guardian roles.
Canon & continuity
The actual specialist statue overview and selected catacomb passages were read alongside the displayed greatsword description. They establish variant armaments, the stolen pupil and the Crystal Dart interaction. A staff fetch was rate-limited, so no additional unread item wording or precise workshop attribution was adopted.
