Overview
Chameleos is an Elder Dragon with bulbous eyes, a prominent nose horn, a long tongue and a curled, leaflike tail. Its purple-and-white body can become difficult to see, and it uses poison clouds to control the space around opponents. The creature's hesitant-looking movements and sudden attacks distinguish it from the more imposing charge-and-roar presentation of many other large monsters.
Its tongue has a notably version-specific role. Earlier games allow it to steal carried items, while Monster Hunter Rise instead uses the attack to take benefits gathered from Spiribirds. Camouflage behavior and the effects of breaking the horn also change across releases. Risen Chameleos, introduced through Sunbreak update content, is a separate empowered form outside this account. The profile covers the recurring ordinary Elder Dragon and identifies its stealth, poison and tongue attacks without assigning an unsupported scientific mechanism to the invisibility.
First appearances & development
Monster Hunter 2 (2006). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation.
