Overview

Wyverns are smaller relatives of the setting's dragons, able to attack from the air but lacking dragonlike fire breath in Wild Hunt's description. A tooth-filled beak and the venomous stinger at the end of the tail make close combat dangerous after landing. Mistaking one for a dragon can therefore hide the wrong expected danger: a hunter watching only for flame may neglect a poisoned strike.

The games give these animals recurring encounter and contract roles, while royal Wyverns are described as particularly dangerous members of the broader family. This entry keeps such internal distinctions without creating a separate catalogue record for every level or colour. It also preserves the difference between a Witcher draconid and the much wider use of wyvern in heraldry or other fictional settings. Exact aerial attack timings and damage values belong to particular game versions.

First appearances & development

The selected version is 2007 and 2015 game. CD Projekt RED's games adapt Sapkowski's setting while adding their own creature designs, quest histories and combat classifications. This profile identifies those game treatments, rather than asserting that every detail originates in the novels. Spellings and named variants remain within the same account unless a substantive independent comparison is required.

Canon & continuity

The Witcher Wiki is an independent reference, and its public MediaWiki API supplied the version-labeled bestiary text and relevant quest accounts. Publisher-hosted Prima guide excerpts provide additional context where listed. The bibliography identifies the actual game or reference chapter; it does not imply a complete audit of every novel, expansion, patch, screen adaptation or full guidebook.
