Unggoy

Overview

Unggoy are a relatively small people commonly called Grunts by human forces. Their breathing equipment reflects atmospheric needs rather than an absence of intelligence, and their battlefield position is shaped by Covenant hierarchy. Frightened reactions and comic dialogue can coexist with a history of coercion, rebellion and individuals willing to resist the roles assigned to them.

Different games vary their armour, voices and tactics. Later conflicts show that membership in the Covenant is not the species' permanent political condition. An account should therefore distinguish a people from a low-ranking enemy class, describing the institutions that put Unggoy in expendable positions rather than treating such treatment as evidence of their natural worth.
