Overview
Sangheili are a powerful humanoid people commonly called Elites in Halo's military terminology. Their split mandibles and armour create a distinctive silhouette, while their service in the Covenant embeds them in a political and religious hierarchy. The Arbiter's story makes that service unstable by confronting him with the consequences of obedience and the discovery of betrayal.
Halo 2 and later stories develop factions, alliances and post-Covenant conflicts rather than treating the people as permanently united enemies of humanity. Energy swords and shields are important equipment, not natural anatomy. This entry follows the principal game and literary setting; television's Silver Timeline has a separate continuity and cannot silently provide missing details.
First appearances & development
Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) introduces Sangheili as Elites. This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Game and literary canon are the baseline; the television Silver Timeline is excluded.
Canon & continuity

Exact page references, exhaustive first-appearance research and edition-independent mechanics are outside this profile. Game and literary canon are the baseline; the television Silver Timeline is excluded.

Family, evolution & connections
Existing Halo body and face designs (TV adaptation reference)
Craig Calvert says the television Elites’ core bodies and faces drew on wider Halo designs while armour concepts were new. This is an explicitly described adaptation process, not evidence that every game appearance shares the television production’s design history.
